ShopRite, the largest food retailer in New Jersey and the New York metro area, accepts Apple Pay as a mode of payment in its stores. It's no doubt that Apple Pay is constantly gaining tractions because restaurants, gas station, and even grocery stores are adopting it as an easy-to-use and secure payment method.
Dated back to 2022, ShopRite is one of the grocery stores that stopped accepting Apple Pay from customers as a mode payment. The primary reason for the temporary stop is rooted to a transition of many stores in the United States to new payment terminals around at that time.
These new terminals did not initially support Apple Pay. That is, the terminals have not been immediately configured to support Apple Pay or other contactless payment methods. The company backing the terminals citer delays in software updates.
A months later, the situation changed. ShopRite rolled out a major update in its payment terminals to accept Apple Pay. The update was forced to be rolled out due to increasing demand of Apple Pay from customers. I mean who wants to be left behind? The grocery store must follow the increasing trends in accepting payment method that's in vogue.
The second ShopRite's support for Apple Pay was confirmed by a Reddit user. The user announced ShopRite's re-instalment of Apple Pay as a primary payment option in its stores, as highlighted in the image below.
The user, punjabilon, stated that ShopRite has reinstated Apple Wallet support after removing it a few months ago, following an app update that restored the feature, and expressed satisfaction with the company's response to customer demand.
Due to the reinstate, Apple Pay can now be used for payment both in-store and online store at ShopRite. However, it's important to note that the re-instalment of Apple Pay payment option is not yet circulate to all ShopRite's stores. Nevertheless, majority of the stores are taking the digital wallet now.
How to use Apple Pay at ShopRite
Using Apple Pay to shop at ShopRite is simple. Of course, you can just walk into any ShopRite store and pick your items, then walk up to the cashier counter to make payment. You can make payment using Apple Pay so far a contactless payment NFC supported is available at the counter.
However, if you haven't setup your Apple Pay digital wallet on your iPhone, you may have problems using the platform. Well, I can say Apple Pay is easy to set up. Your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac computer comes with an pre-installed app of the digital wallet.
All you need to do is open the Apple and set up your Apple Pay account simply by adding a debit/credit card. In this article, I emphasize more about the types of cards that can be used to setup an Apple Pay account. It's also important to check the pre-installed app if it's up-to-date. If it's not, I recommend you update the app to the latest version before you proceed with the account set-up.
Once your account is setup, then it's ready to be used for payment anywhere contactless payment is accepted including ShopRite. The amount of products you purchased will be deducted from the card you added to your Apple Pay account.
To use Apple Pay for payment at a ShopRite checkout counter, look for the contactless payment symbol on the terminal. When ready to pay, hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the reader with your finger on the Home button (for older iPhones) or double-click the side button and authenticate with Face ID or passcode. Once the payment is confirmed with a beep or checkmark, you’re done—your receipt will reflect the transaction.
For online purchases on ShopRite’s website or app, the process is similarly straightforward. During checkout, select Apple Pay as your payment option if available (noted by the Apple Pay button). Double-click the side button on your device, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode, and confirm the payment.
The fun fact about using the ShopRite app is that you can store your Price Plus card in Apple Wallet for a seamless loyalty integration. After confirmation, you’ll receive a transaction notification, and your order will process accordingly.
In case Apple Pay is yet to be supported at your ShopRite store, or it's not been listed as a payment option on your ShopRite's app at checkout page, all you need to do is use Apple Cash to make the payment. This works indirectly by transferring the Apple Cash balance to a linked debit card via the Wallet app, and use the card for payment.
To transfer your Apple Cash balance to linked card open the Wallet app on your phone and go-to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Cash > Transfer to Bank. The bank you're transferring to is the bank that issued your linked card. However, it's important to note that the transfer typically takes 1 to 3 business days. You can also make the transfer instant for a 1.5% fee.
