MTN MoMo and Sanlam Launch Mobile Insurance Platform to Boost Financial Health Inclusion in Uganda

MTN Mobile Money Uganda and Sanlam Uganda have partnered to launch "Cover by MoMo" for the purpose of making insurance become more accessible to everyone in Uganda.

Cover by MoMo is a mobile-based insurance platform launched by MTN MoMo and Sanlam in Uganda to provide accessible, affordable life and health insurance to a wide range of users.

This insurance platform leverage mobile technology to simplifies the process of obtaining coverage that enables everyday Ugandans, including those in underserved communities, to secure financial protection against health and life risks.

All these services are accessible via Cover's user-friendly digital interface.

How to Use Cover by MoMO

MTN MoMo and Sanlam launch the first phase of Cover as "Family Cover by MoMo" on the platform. The Family Cover allows MoMo users to insure themselves and up to six family members with as low as UGX 500 per month.

Family Cover by MoMo can be easily access using phones and it covers both life insurance and hospitalization. This first phase is used to offer financial support when it’s needed most—without the burden of paperwork or physical queues.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a Cover by MoMo insurance policy, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be between the age 18 and 65 years old at the time of registration and application.
  • You must also be a permanent resident of Uganda.

However, it's important to note that SANLAM use to offer some benefits for a limited time, and specific customer groups as part of the initiative promotional campaigns.
