ASUU Suspends Two-Week Warning Strike After Talks With Federal Government
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike with effect from midnight on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The decision came after an overnight emergency meeting of the Union’s National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja and followed renewed engagements with government officials. Although the strike has been suspended, ASUU has given the Federal Government of Nigeria a one-month window to fully address its outstanding demands — including the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, payment of withheld salaries and promotion arrears, and revitalisation of public universities. The union warned that it would resume strike action without further notice if the government fails to act within that period.
