Microsoft Debuts its First In-House AI Image Generator

Microsoft has officially unveiled MAI-Image-1 , its first internally developed text-to-image AI model. MAI-Image-1 is another in-house AI model the company is rolling out as it continues to roll out more internally-developed AI models amid plans to reduce reliance on long-standing partnership with OpenAI. Microsoft said it built MAI-Image-1 to deliver more creative, less generic visuals—especially in areas like landscapes and dramatic light effects. Its performance is also touted as faster and more efficient than larger and slower competing models. For now, MAI-Image-1 is undergoing testing on LMArena, with Microsoft confirming that integration into Copilot and Bing Image Creator is expected "very soon."
