Reddit has enhanced its Reddit Answers in more countries to let users finds the most useful and upvoted discussions. The platform has announced that its AI-powered search (via “Reddit Answers”) is now available in French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

Reddit Answers is Reddit’s AI-powered search feature that lets users ask natural-language questions—instead of typing traditional keywords—and receive summarized, conversational answers drawn directly from Reddit discussions.

The online social news aggregation and forum-style platform uses a Google AI model to power the feature and complements the platform's traditional keyword search.

With this feature, you can scans millions of relevant Reddit posts and comments, finds the most useful and upvoted discussions, and produces a short, human-style summary that highlights:

  • The most common suggestions
  • Pros and cons mentioned by users
  • Direct links to the original threads

The AI-powered search was only offered in English, and now this expansion has brought the reach to users in countries like Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy, allowing them to interact with Reddit’s conversational search in their native language.

The expansion is part of Reddit’s strategy to unify and scale its search experience globally, especially as AI-driven and chat-style search gains traction across platforms. According to Reddit’s CEO, the platform’s standard search gets over 70 million weekly users, while Reddit Answers already serves over 6 million.

Leveraging Community Content as a Differentiator

Reddit first debuted AI-powered search last year and has been working to expand it in different ways. One of Reddit’s advantages is its massive archive of human conversations, opinions, and real user content.

In non-English speaking markets, that content is more fragmented and varied, so the success of multilingual AI search depends heavily on how well Reddit can surface relevant and high-quality local content—not just translations. Being more useful in a user’s native language lowers friction, and this can lead to higher adoption in international markets.

If Reddit Answers can surface culturally and contextually appropriate responses drawn from local subreddits, that’s a strong competitive edge. In addition to that, it's worth noting that better search can keep users longer, increase engagement, and provide richer signals for personalization—which are essential factors for monetization through ads.
