Cassava Technologies has rolled out a platform called CAIMEx—Cassava AI Multi-Model Exchange. The platform was created for the purpose of boosting mobile network operators (MNOs) productivities across Africa. To be more precise, CAIMEx aggregates access to multiple large language-models and AI tools from providers such as Anthropic (Claude), Google LLC (Gemini), and others.
That means African MNOs—including smaller enterprises (SMEs) and even mobile subscribers via their network operators—can access these via one simplified interface rather than individual integrations. In addition to that, the services are hosted in Cassava’s regional “AI factories” on the continent. Hosting them in Africa will help address data-sovereignty, latency and compliance concerns.
Cassava CEO—the person of Mr. Ahmed El Beheiry—said “Through CAIMEx… we are creating a bridge between global innovation and African ambition. … giving every MNO the ability to offer subscribers world-class AI tools and LLMs easily and affordably.” In one way or the other, this technology will help in reducing heavy cost and the complexity of telecom companies building their own infrastructure.

It's worth noting that African telecommunication companies have been a consumer of AI infrastructure from abroad all their life. But this Cassava's first AI Multi-Model Exchange will help to localise both access and hosting of cutting-edge AI models. That supports increased digital sovereignty, lower latency, and more relevance to local markets.
MNOs are well-positioned to distribute AI capabilities widely—via their mobile networks—so this could accelerate adoption of AI across enterprise and consumer segments. In addition to that, hosting the compute infrastructure on continent may reduce dependency on overseas data centres and make higher-performance AI more accessible in Africa. So, handling it in Africa directly will bridge that gaps.
